Dr. Winton performed an excellent procedure for my special needs son last month to repair his hiatal hernia via a Nissen fundoplication using a robotic-assisted laparoscopy. Dr. Winton was amazing! I had to have emergency surgery and get my appendix out. I was also 12 weeks pregnant at the time. He was calm, thorough, and explained everything in detail. He never rushed me or dismissed my feelings and questions. He called my OB to assure things were okay to continue with the procedure and ask for their recommendation for medication after. He is one of the nicest dr I have ever had! Everything worked out great!

I recently was admitted to FMH with an infected and clogged Gall Bladder. Fortunately, Dr. Winton was the surgeon on-call that night and after my diagnosis was confirmed, he recommended surgery to remove my gall bladder. Since this event was sudden and unexpected, my family had concerns about rushing to have this done and this confused me. I asked for Dr. Winton to come by the next day to explain why he recommended surgery in my case. When I explained to him what my family was concerned about, he took time to explain my particular situation and the rationale, benefits and risks based on my clinical diagnosis as opposed to what you may see on the internet. He validated that my questions and the questions of my family were valid and even took time to call my son and explain my condition. Needless to say, he addressed all our concerns and I had the surgery which was the CORRECT thing to do. He is an EXCELLENT SURGEON and I would recommend anyone needing surgery to seek him out!

Mine was an excellent experience!
Dr. Artusio explained the bases and procedures for what he would be doing. This involved excision of a large cyst, performed in the Surgical Center, as well as a smaller cyst excised in the office.
Dr. Artusio also answered my questions and explained what he was doing in real time during the procedures. I had no significant pain or discomfort. Everything healed well and very quickly, no complications.
I would also like to complement Amy, who was super-skilled and efficient in dressing my "wounds". Amy and Dr. Artusio had a great bedside manner and sense of humor. I understand that Amy is finishing up nursing school. I expect she will be an excellent nurse!
The entire office staff with whom I interfaced was very competent and pleasant to work with. My recovery has been uneventful. Sorry I didn't reply earlier!

I came to the emergency room with what ended up to be an intestinal blockage. Dr Winton had a very measured and logical approach to this problem, I eventually needed surgery to remedy this situation. At the end of August 2022, I had a sigmoidectomy performed by Dr. Winton after suffering from diverticulitis for years. How many doctors are honest, wise, and ethical enough to give the patient good reasons for not doing hernia surgery immediately? Dr. Brand counseled me that my hernia was a safe kind, and that, as long as I had no pain or bleeding and could live a normal lifestyle, I could safely postpone the surgery, but it was entirely my choice, since there were also very good reasons to go ahead and have the surgery right away. After thinking it over, I decided not to do it at this time.

August 17, 2022 - Surgical experience was excellent. Dr. Brand did a terrific job.
However, While under anesthesia OR staff had to manipulate my body to allow follow-on plastic surgeon to remove skin from my right side for grafting on my head. I have/had a reversed total right shoulder replacement. In manipulating my body pulling on my arm the shoulder prostheses was dislodged. I now need another orthopedic operation to repair the damage to my shoulder.

Why the name Foris Surgical Group?
Our founder, Dr. Nicholas Foris began practice in Frederick in the 1960’s. He provided general, vascular and thoracic surgical services to our area until his retirement in July 2000. In recognition of his special dedication to patient care, we are pleased to continue to service the Frederick area in his name. Dr. Foris passed away on January 4, 2011.
